Maersk Oil has acquired licences and exploration acreage in the Turkana region of northern Kenya comprising:
•25% interest in exploration licence 10BB in Kenya, partnered with Tullow Oil (operator, 50%) and Africa Oil (25%)
•25% interest in exploration licence 10BA in Kenya with Tullow Oil (operator, 50%) and Africa Oil (25%)
•25% interest in exploration licence 13T in Kenya with Tullow Oil (operator, 50%) and Africa Oil (25%)
This investment adds to an already attractive non-operated onshore portfolio for Maersk Oil that includes our 25 year presence in Algeria.
The acreage is a new onshore oil province with material upside. The partnership has achieved significant exploration and appraisal success to date.
Pre FEED work is underway for the South Lokichar license area, and an Early Oil Production Scheme is underway with first oil expected in 2017. This will provide important technical and commercial information to support the Full Field Development.
