With the knowledge that offshore oil and gas production can affect the environment in various ways, we have integrated eco-efficient practices into our activities so that we can reduce our environmental footprint.

A key objective for Maersk Oil is the identification, control and minimisation of emissions, discharges, and wastes from exploration and production activities.

We comply with environmental legislation and often go well beyond compliance, recognising that individual contributions make a difference.

Managing the environment
Our main operating units have ensured that they adhere to the international ISO 14001 standard.  ISO 14001 guides companies around the world in drawing up effective environmental management systems to govern those aspects of the environment that can be controlled, and establishes a subsequent auditing process.

Gas Flare Reduction
Maersk Oil joined the World Bank's Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership in 2009, which focuses on reducing gas flaring and venting, as well as ways of monetising gas in order to support emerging energy economies.
Gas Recovery
Maersk Oil is working with Qatar Petroleum on a gas recovery and export project that was approved by the United Nations in 2007 as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under the Kyoto Protocol. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions in Qatar by 17.5 million tonnes over seven years.
